Eliot Centre

The Eliot Centre is a Specialist Resource Provision for students with a primary need of Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) on their Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

Our vision is to create a nurturing and inclusive environment where every student with Speech, Language, and Communication Needs can thrive. We are committed to “Transforming Lives Through Learning” by fostering resilience, promoting equality, and inspiring aspiration in every child. Our community is built on the principles of mutual respect and support, where students, families, and staff collaborate to ensure every learner reaches their full potential. We believe in cultivating happiness through a safe, engaging, and enriching educational experience that celebrates diversity and individual strengths. Together, we empower our students to overcome challenges, build confidence, and achieve their dreams, ensuring they are prepared for a successful and fulfilling future.

  • The Eliot Centre curriculum is differentiated to ensure learners make progress towards achieving GCSE or Level 2 qualifications at the end of Key Stage 4.

    The Curriculum is designed to:

    • Create a strong sense of Purpose and direction for students, helping provide internal motivation required to achieve highly.

    • Offer student leadership skills and opportunities to develop these, contributing to developing confidence and aspiration.

    • Creating a strong sense of belonging and identity.

From entry all learners attend approximately 20% of lessons within the mainstream of Brompton Academy, maintaining their base within the Eliot Centre for form and core subjects. This percentage will increase in years 10 and 11 once GCSE options have been chosen. This ensures that the Eliot students are fully integrated with their peers which will benefit them in their post 16 education (SEND Code of Practice 2015).

As students’ progress from Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 4 they will benefit from the broad and extensive options available accessing a minimum of seven GCSE or level 2 courses as part of our wide and inclusive curriculum offer with all students.

  • Each learner will have a personalised provision as set out in their EHCP. This provision will be delivered either within the mainstream lessons via the support of our excellent teaching or (where necessary) a teaching assistant. Alternatively, within the Eliot Centre.

At present our offer consists of the following interventions/provisions:

    ·      Social and communication skills

    ·      Sensory Integration Support Intervention

    ·      Self-Regulation Intervention

    ·      Safe and calm space during unstructured times, such as break and lunch time

    ·      Smaller Examination Environment

  • We understand that the transition for students can be particularly challenging, and we are committed to providing comprehensive support to ease this process.

Our approach includes several key initiatives:

    ·      Organise primary school visits to familiarise students with their new environment.

    ·      Conduct one-on-one meetings with parents to address concerns and gather insights.

    ·       Invite learners to attend a weekly transition program in Term 6 of year 6 to help students gradually adjust.

    ·      We hold a dedicated Transition Day to provide a hands-on experience of their new school.

    ·      Our staff attend Year 6 PCAR meetings to ensure a smooth handover of important information from primary to secondary.

Together, these efforts aim to create a supportive and nurturing transition experience for every student attending the Eliot Centre.
