We are excited to introduce UKAT’s Furry Friends, our three dogs that are now working with us at Brompton Academy. The dogs have been assessed by an external qualified dog behaviourist as appropriate to work with young people in a school environment and are known as our Dog Mentors.
The UKAT Furry Friends are as follows:
Jake - A five-year-old German Shepherd owned by Mrs McDonald.
Chewy - A one-year-old Cockapoo owned by Mrs Hodgson.
Aslan - A nine-month-old Rottweiler owned by Miss Price.
From Term 6, the UKAT Furry Friends will be based on a rota in the library during lunch times for any students to come and visit.
Our UKAT Furry Friends are also helping to reduce stress and anxiety for some of our Year 11 students when sitting their core exams. They are also available for our UKAT Sixth Form students when needed.
Students can also treat themselves and five friends to a speedy lunch pass, tricks, training and photographs with Aslan during a lunchtime, using their ePraise reward points.
We will also be working with some students on a one-to-one basis, and if this programme is offered, we will request consent forms from parents/carers.
Signage will always be on display to show where the UKAT Furry Friends are working, so young people can avoid certain areas if they prefer not to be around the dogs for personal reasons.
